Recommendation for District 101’s Continued Membership in the LaGrange Area Department of Special Education Cooperative (LADSE)

Recommendation for District 101’s Continued Membership in the LaGrange Area Department of Special Education Cooperative (LADSE)

District 101 administrators on January 23, 2017 recommended to the Board of Education that District 101 continue its relationship with LADSE for special education services, including early childhood education, psychological services, physical and occupational therapy, assistive technology, speech pathology, and programming for students with significant physical, mental, and sensory impairments, autism spectrum disorders, and social, emotional, and behavior disorders.

District 101 special education coordinators, Dr. Julia Nadler and Mrs. Gini Sulek, completed an extensive analysis of District 101’s partnership with LADSE in light of District 102’s indication earlier this academic year that it was considering severing its partnership with LADSE.  Dr. Nadler and Mrs. Sulek determined that although District 101 may save a negligible amount of money if it terminated its relationship with LADSE, there would be potentially significant drawbacks to such a decision, such as possiblynot receiving the same level of services in an inclusive environment, as is currently seen with LADSE supports.

Dr. Nadler and Mrs. Sulek are continuing to monitor and review potential changes to LADSE’s billing structure to ensure that LADSE continues to meet the needs of District 101 students in a positive and fiscally responsible manner.

Attached is a presentation that Dr. Nadler and Mrs. Sulek presented to the Board on January 23.  Please feel free to call Dr. Nadler at 708-485-2281 or Mrs. Sulek at 708-485-2850 if you have questions or comments about their detailed analysis.
